Hill-Rom team takes second place in Panathlon

In one of the most exciting Panathlon Challenge finals in many years, the Hill-Rom Team from Newham was one of the three teams battling it out to be the champions in 2009.

The event took place at the Westway Sports Centre London W10 on 25th June 2009. Six teams took part, having got through to the final from preliminary rounds earlier in the year.

The judges declared Barking and Dagenham the winners with 62 points, narrowly beating their main rivals. The runners up were Hill-Rom Newham Team on 58 and Bromley with 56. The other teams were from, Brent who came 4th, Wandsworth 5th and Waltham Forest 6th. Giles Long MBE, multi-medallist paralympian was on hand to encourage the athletes and award medals to all the winners.

150 disabled athletes aged between eight and eighteen took part, with approximately 25 representing each of the participating boroughs. The event was attended by a supporting crowd, who encouraged the young athletes as they competed in a total of five sports after six months of coaching and preparation.

Hill-Rom Managing Director, Bob Parsons commented “This was such a fantastic day to be involved with and a great opportunity to see children partaking in fun events. Congratulations to the teams and the coaching staff for such a memorable day and a big well done to the Hill-Rom Newham Team.” The event will recommence in early 2010.
