Over the past 10 years, Liko, the UK’s leading provider of patient lifting solutions, has installed in excess of 60 Likorall systems throughtout The West of England School and College for young people with little or no sight. The Likorall systems and hoists have helped enormously in assisting the teaching, care, therapy, mobility and nursing staff at the School and College therefore making everyday activities effortless.
With high staff to pupil ratio and 24 hour health team cover, The West of England School and College offers a specialist learning environment and is the leading regional centre for the education and care of children and young people with little or no sight covering ages from primary to post 16.
"Liko has provided service and maintenance support to the School and College for over 10 years. From an initial order for two Liko Golvos, we have gradually developed our relationship with Liko as the campus has expanded and additional equipment has been required.
To date there are 65 Likorall and overhead hoist systems installed, most of which are used in conjunction with sitting slings and more orders are expected in the next 12 months," explained Jill Dudding (Therapy Manager).
The overhead hoists have been installed across the entire School and College campus including the accommodation areas such as bedrooms and bathrooms, classrooms, therapy areas and the swimming pool. The swimming pool is a prime example of the versatility of the Liko overhead hoists. Once the students are changed and ready for swimming they are placed in a sling and then moved effortlessly from the changing room through to the swimming area and over the pool thanks to the Likorall being installed throughout the building. Therefore there is no need to transfer from room to room, reducing the need for additional staff and any possible distress for the students. Another example of how the Liko system is unique is when transferring children on and off the trampoline for Physiotherapy sessions.
With the Liko system the number of staff required for transfer is greatly reduced resulting in less expenditure. As a result, pupils can be given the extra time they need to have fun, make friends and build confidence and esteem. This puts less emphasis on the pupils’ disability and more on preparing the learners for transition to the next stage of life.
"In addition to the superb standard of equipment from Liko, the service side of the business is also exceptional.
Whenever we have had a new installation or work carried out as part of the service contract we have never had a problem with the Liko personnel. In fact, I have never known workmen to leave a site so tidy," continued Jill. All Liko (UK) engineers are trained in maintenance, testing and inspection procedures to ensure every contract’s individual requirements are met. Maintenance clients have the option to sign up to a 24 hour helpline and every Liko (UK) service vehicle is fitted with a tracker to ensure an engineer is on site as quickly as possible.
